Investigating the dynamic nature of values in design and construction of healthcare facilities
Lean principles focus on waste minimization, continuous improvement, value maximization and culture of respect. Among these focus areas, the concept of value has been gaining increasing attention in academic literature as well as practitioner community. Often, value is considered as an ambiguous term and project stakeholders makes the sense of this term over the course of project delivery. These values are shaped and negotiated with the involvement of variety of project stakeholders. The healthcare facilities are perceived to be designed, constructed, and operated by keeping in mind the satisfaction of end user (patient). However, the practice gives the impression that the reality is different, and often value conflicts are faced in delivery of health care facility. In this context, this study aims to investigate how the value is negotiated and shaped in design and construction health care facilities. Further, it also aims to investigate how these values can be aligned by keeping in mind the needs and satisfaction of end users.
