Construction Automation and Lean- Machine Learning Framework for Analyzing Last Planner System

Last planner system (LPS) is a collaborative planning system, which is driven by the lean principles namely waste reduction, value maximization, continuous improvement and culture of respect. The strength of LPS is to increase the reliability with which construction planning can be done amidst the variability that is typical in the industry. The constraint analysis as part of the lookahead planning is the process that bridges between the conventional planning and the day-to-day execution planning by proactively identifying the constraints and getting the stakeholders to resolve them before it impacts the execution and consequently the milestones. LPS has been widely used in Indian construction project for the past few years and there is a wealth of structured and unstructured data available in the form of phase schedules, look ahead schedules, weekly schedules and constraint analysis. With the advent of machine learning, this data can be analyzed and used to create a prediction model and a recommendation engine for the lookahead constraints that can be used to augment the planning capabilities of the onsite team in future projects.
