Model safe roads- construction& maintenance of NH in different zone and research thereof
• Road network is integral mode of transportation. The present transport system has minimized the distances but it has on the other hand increased the life risk.
• As per the Road Accident Report for 2019, a total number of 449,002 accidents took place in the country during the calendar year 2019 leading to 151,113 deaths and 451,361 injuries. In percentage terms, the number of accidents decreased by 3.86% in 2019 over that of the previous year, while the accident-related deaths decreased by 0.20 % and the persons injured decreased by 3.86%. economic terms, the cost to the nation is an estimated 3 % of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). A majority of fatalities are in the age group of 18 to 45 years. There is need for coordinated action by all the key stakeholders to address this serious concern. Road Safety Audit on roads is one critical step in that direction.
• The Government of India further recognizes that road safety needs to be addressed on a holistic basis. It also recognizes that regardless of jurisdiction*-s, the Central and State Governments have a joint responsibility in reducing the incidence of road accidents, injuries and fatalities.
• In light of this, the Government of India, through this National Road Safety Policy, states its commitment to bring about a significant reduction in mortality and morbidity resulting from road accidents.
• In order to achieve a significant improvement in road safety, the Government of India is committed to Raise Awareness about Road Safety Issues.

• Human error.
• Mechanical/Electric fault of the Vehicle.
• Engineering fault/ Design defect
• Improper geometric design
• Improper and inadequate maintenance of carriageway.
• Inadequate Safety Sign Boards and Road Markings etc.,
• As per the recent notification & directions OF National Highway authority of India all Regional Officers are to develop 5 National Highway stretches in their respective jurisdiction of the state as Model Safe Roads.
