In the current context of new standards, advanced technologies, and owner-desired additions and changes, construction projects are becoming more complex. While projects are completed mainly depending upon the cooperation between various stakeholders, there have always been claims due to conflicting opinions as to various aspects of design and construction. A significantly increasing number of construction claims leads to severe time and cost implications on projects and calls for the implementation of effective construction claim management. The construction industry needs to create techniques to mitigate claims as project participants are becoming more conscious of the significant costs and dangers connected with the occurrence of claims. The research aims to identify the reasons of the occurrence of claims in road infrastructure projects and study the claim management process right from occurrence to mitigation. To achieve this, a study of reasons of claims is carried out with respect to two case studies where claims were raised in government road infrastructure construction projects. The study also comprises findings from the literature study, and later a questionnaire is developed to assess the perception of the contractors and consultants towards the factors causing claims.
