Nestled at the confluence of the Aravalli and Vindhya ranges, Sita Mata’s diverse terrain and varying canopy cover create distinct microhabitats across the forest floor, being the key focus of the lens with examining the seasonal changes of the forest floor . From dense, shaded regions under tall trees to open areas exposed to sunlight, the forest floor undergoes significant transformations with changing seasons. These changes ripple through the ecosystem, impacting the microhabitats that support a variety of life forms, from insects to small mammals and reptiles, many of whom must adapt or migrate as conditions change. The understory and ground cover serve critical roles in maintaining the forest’s health. They provide shelter, food, and breeding grounds for many species, including insects, birds, and small mammals. Additionally, they contribute to soil fertility through the breakdown of organic matter, regulate temperature and moisture levels, and prevent soil erosion. In essence, the forest floor and trees share a symbiotic relationship, with each relying on the other for long-term sustainability.
