Evolution of Military Technology in Jaipur

This project examines the evolution of Jaipur’s military technology, with a focus on Jaigarh Fort’s cannon foundry as a symbol of innovation and adaptation from the pre-colonial era to the early 20th century. By tracing the origins of cannon production in India, the research explores material flows, knowledge transfer, and foreign influences that shaped Jaipur’s military power. It highlights the significance of the Topkhana and Silehkhana workshops in arms production and city planning, as well as the cultural transition of weaponry under colonial frameworks. Integrating archival records, maps, and translated accounts, the study reveals Jaipur’s dynamic strategies in merging tradition and modernity.
