KALARV (Primary School at Mt. Abu)

The site is located in the northern part of Mt. Abu on a hill near Dilwara pond. There is already an existing school at the top of the hill. The slope of the site is much steeper near the existing school and gradually becomes flat as one moves towards the lake. The steep slope of hill is fully covered with shrubs and foliage of trees with some punchers in between through which one could see the rocky landform. The site interpretation is framed from the idea of collage “Frame of colors”. Here the water body is imagined as the audience and the existing school as protagonist of the play of the site. The three different vertical layers imagined as the director , musician, scriptwriter of the play are representing the hide and seek movement between the spaces. The concept of primary school is to create a space for kids to learn and get involved in activities done in open spaces which makes them feel free from the boundaries. The idea of semi-open spaces at certain places is to get the maximum interaction between kids of different age groups. The organization is such that the movement connects all the spaces in different levels. Organizing in this way helps to hide and show the movement. The staff room is placed in the center which help tutors to keep an eye on the kids. Along with that a courtyard on the back side creates excitement for the kids . LAND-BUILDING
