INTERSTICE

This studio explores architecture as a convergence of meaning, building, and crafting, emphasizing the interplay between cultural narratives, materiality, and the intangible aspects of design. Through a series of carefully curated exercises, the studio challenges students to interrogate the essence of details, their cultural significance, and their transformative impact on spaces and communities. From designing socially responsive prototypes, such as a public toilet for Ahmedabad, to cultural explorations like a residence for Banksy or a workshop-library inspired by Kapadvanj kund vaav, each project is an inquiry into how details can manifest as profound expressions of context and purpose. The culmination exercise integrates these lessons, demonstrating how craftsmanship and architectural response can seamlessly bridge history, culture, and contemporary needs. This studio celebrates architecture as a thoughtful process of building and crafting - a dialogue between material precision, cultural resonance, and design intent, ultimately shaping spaces imbued with meaning.
