Sereniform

The proposed design on Amsterdam’s Java Island integrates experiential therapy principles into a dynamic space, fostering emotional exploration and personal growth. Anchored by two strong plinths, the structure rises as a landmark surrounded by water, blending public and private domains. Geometric forms, primarily pyramidal, intersect and subtract, creating tactile and visual experiences through sharp shards and intricate junctions. The site’s high footfall ensures seamless integration with the public realm, promoting social interaction on the lower levels with smooth and rough textures. Ascending levels offer intimate spaces for reflection. The design emphasizes light, shadow, and texture interplay, with sensorial spaces featuring diffused lighting, perforated facades, and shard-inspired fixtures. A central circulation node with a translucent upper façade ensures functional flow, illuminated by natural light. Step pools and guided lighting enhance the connection to nature. This transformative environment blends architectural innovation with therapeutic principles, creating a serene, stimulating space.
