Janus-Faced: A Dialogue Between Rift & Repose

The Ark Killah (Fort Wall) in Bijapur stands as a powerful divider of two realms - water on one side and land on the other - encircling the citadel. The wall is ruptured, creating a doorway that bridges these contrasting worlds. The project emerges at this threshold, where the land's rugged, undulating landscape meets the water's serene, horizontal surface. The wall acts both as a divider and a connector, framing the meeting point of these two realms. The building’s design acknowledges this liminality, creating spaces that resonate with the tension between the dynamic and the tranquil. Programs engaging the mind and societal relationships, such as the library and meeting rooms, are situated in the realm of rift - a dynamic, energetic environment. The hammam, by contrast, exists in the realm of repose, floating on the water and submitting to gravity’s pull.
