THE SUNKEN EDIFICE | A Climate Research Institute

Curating a space that uses climate-responsive strategies to create a sanctuary for the people living and working at the climate research institute amidst the extreme weather conditions of the desert in Kutch. The concept involves using the earth as thermal insulation by partially sinking the building into the ground, while simultaneously creating a well-lit and ventilated space through the form of the roof. The staggered spatial arrangement creates shaded pathways and courtyards, while also ensuring privacy between living and working spaces.
