Flowing Stone: The Kailash Experience

Imagine the basalt monolith reborn. This project reimagines the monolith in a completely new form, with an organic layout that diverges from the geometry of the original Kailash complex. The structure is entirely rock-cut, featuring curved walls and carved pathways that open up to the caves.
With its meandering pathways and openings, it allows users to experience the surrounding caves from the structure. It also matches the height of those plinths and peripheral caves to create a dialogue between the context and the structure as well as bring back the memory of Kailash. Although the design is indifferent to the original form and layout of Kailash, it evokes the memory of Kailash through its materiality, interplay of light, and spatial composition.
