Viraam

The Kailash Temple, once monumental, has vanished, leaving only the surrounding caves and the Shivling. This absence invites the creation of a museum and public space that acknowledges the site's historical context while responding architecturally to its void. The project deconstructs the temple’s mass into thin, evenly spaced slabs, introducing transparency and lightness, contrasting with the original monolithic form. The design reimagines the temple as a negative space, preserving the untouched plinth and landscape. Through minimal intervention, the project fosters a dialogue between the past and present, allowing the memory of Kailash to resonate within a contemplative, open space.
