Vernacular architecture is inherently tied to its place, defined by design solutions specific to its location. However, an often overlooked yet crucial aspect is time. For architecture to be considered vernacular, it must endure through time, evolving into a space-specific typology. The studio, aptly named "The Resurgence of the Vernacular," embodies this philosophy, focusing on responsible design that respects both place and time. The project brief involves creating a residence in Udvada for a retired historian and teacher. This couple requires dedicated spaces for their extensive book collection and for hosting tuition classes. They also wish to accommodate homestay guests and provide living quarters for household help, including their partner and child. The studio's theme and project brief emphasize the importance of integrating with Udvada's existing architectural structures.
