Revitalizing Khazan Fields: Agricultural Resilience

The primary goal is to assist Goa’s farmers in addressing the pressing challenges they face in the Khazan paddy fields. Currently, the region experiences fluctuations in water supply, which are reliant on seasonal rains. These fluctuations result in significant disruptions to crop yields and the local economy. To alleviate these issues, the proposal is to create a comprehensive plan that includes innovative solutions.
One of these innovative solutions involves utilizing brackish and saltwater resources for cultivating specific rice species. Simultaneously, the aim is to transition from conventional chemical fertilizers to natural alternatives through community-driven experiments, promoting long-term agricultural sustainability. Furthermore, fostering awareness and facilitating knowledge-sharing will help bridge the gap between ecologists and farmers. This collaborative approach will ensure holistic development and the well-being of the entire community.
To make these proposed solutions a reality, it will start with a comprehensive assessment of the Khazan paddy, followed by the development of necessary infrastructure, including irrigation systems and observatories to track soil and water for further improvements. Continuous monitoring, policy advocacy, and long-term commitment will ensure the sustainability of these efforts, ultimately improving the well-being of Goa’s farmers and the resilience of the Khazan paddy fields.
