In India, the craft is a way of life. In the recent decade, the craft sector has created a new wave of material culture, empirical knowledge repositories, and shared cultural narratives. The studio celebrates the emergence of these nouveau perceptions of crafts within India and globally through craft-design collaborations. This studio is about knowing, understanding, and representing the individual and collective narratives embedded in traditional and contemporary Indian craft practices through visual storytelling. Through field visits (in India), hands-on exploration with craft communities, expert sessions and collective immersions, this multidisciplinary studio unit amalgamates crafts, visual communication and storytelling. This unit is part of a 4-year-long project - Threads of Innovation (TOI), an international academic collaboration between the CEPT University and NTNU, Norway.
