Taking inspiration from Ahmedabad, a city that is the hub of architecture and design, ‘The Eclectic Haveli’ is a vibrant and fun hotel designed to cater to students, parents and families looking for a short stay. The project began by photographing Ahmedabad through the designer’s lens, which helped in coming up with the design concept of eclecticism, which is when varying elements juxtapose with each other to form a unique whole. This concept was translated into the space through various methods. While designing the lobby, this was achieved volumetrically by using furniture of varying heights, shapes and sizes. In the room, contrasting colors, textures and materials were used to convey the concept. When it came to the restaurant, hexagonal fractals were used to create elements in the space while also incorporating different architectural elements unique to Ahmedabad such as jallis and jharokhas, interpreting them in a more modern way and at an interior level.
