Aala re Aala

“Aala Re Aala” is a celebration of Pune’s Ganesh festival, capturing the vibrant essence of how this tradition brings the city to life. This work showcases how people come together, drawn to the famous mandals decorated with intricate lighting and adorned with elaborate idols of Ganapati. The scenes reveal how individuals, families, and friends unite in their devotion and excitement, creating a shared experience in the bustling festival spaces.  The accordion format mirrors the festival’s dynamic rhythm, unfolding to show a continuous flow of moments. Each fold reflects scenes of people photographing the idols, families lifting children on their shoulders for a better view, and the crowd moving with anticipation and reverence. These images build up to the festival’s grand conclusion the final day miravnuk, where participants in traditional Marathi attire play dhol tasha, filling the air with sound, rhythm, and joy. Through Aala Re Aala, this project captures more than just the events of the Ganesh festival; it tells the story of how the tradition unites people from all backgrounds in celebration. The booklet reflects the rich, layered experience of the festival, celebrating Ganapati’s arrival as a powerful moment of community and shared joy.
