Doshiwada ni Pol, part of Ahmedabad's historic walled city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a neighborhood rich in cultural and architectural value. Effective facility management in such a heritage site is crucial to preserving its unique character while adapting to contemporary living needs.
This project aims to address post-occupancy challenges by focusing on architectural conservation, enhancing safety measures, promoting sustainable practices like waste segregation, and fostering community engagement. The goal is to maintain the area's heritage value while improving the quality of life for residents, blending traditional aesthetics with modern functionality.
The project involves a comprehensive methodology, starting with site visits and research to document current conditions and identify gaps in facility management. Interaction with stakeholders, including residents, local businesses, and conservation experts, provided valuable insights for finding appropriate solutions such as streetscape enhancements to emphasize the heritage character, awareness campaigns about heritage regulations, and initiatives for waste management and safety protocols. Building a strong internal Pol community and self-help groups will be the key to sustaining these efforts, creating a neighborhood that respects its past while adapting to the present.
