Conserve Vokada

The "Conserve Vokada" project in Rajkot addresses stormwater management by integrating natural stream conservation with urban planning. It focuses on rehabilitating Vokadas (natural streams) and aligning their preservation with the Town Planning (TP) schemes to mitigate urban flooding, groundwater depletion, and pollution. The project has two pilot areas: retrofitting the Nanamava 5 TP scheme and redesigning the Rajkot 31 draft TP scheme. Key proposals include creating flood parks, sponge parks, bioswales, and decentralised wastewater treatment systems (DEWATS). It emphasises stakeholder collaboration, policy alignment, and innovative green infrastructure to ensure sustainable urban development and water security for the city.
