The streets of the old city of Ahmedabad, mainly the Manek Chowk area have a very medieval character to them, in terms of its vitality and usage. However, the present infrastructure prevents it from retaining that character, and prioritizes vehicle movement over the needs of pedestrians in most places during the day, when the food markets are closed. The aim of the project is to hand the street back to vendors and pedestrians, who are the most present on the street, while ensuring the flow of vehicular traffic remains as undisturbed as possible.
