Layered Connection: Redefining Public Realm Manek Chowk

This project envisions a transformative approach to Manek Chowk street, reimagining it as a multi-layered public realm that enhances mobility, spatial efficiency, and urban vibrancy. By introducing an elevated structure that seamlessly connects the island buildings, the design optimizes street-level space by relocating squatted vendors to upper levels, fostering a dynamic mix of uses. The upper layers accommodate attractions such as small chaat and tea cafes, open-air eateries, and a viewing deck, creating new social and cultural opportunities. The fifth-floor viewing deck offers panoramic vistas, further elevating the area's appeal. This infill urbanism strategy respects and accentuates the character of the historic island buildings while introducing a modern, integrated design that revitalizes the heart of the city.
