The studio aims to provide the students with a comprehensive understanding of the framework to undertake feasibility of an urban transport project.
This year, the students would be working on multimodal integration. Many cities in Asia operate a combination of public transport modes independently. This results in inefficiencies in the operations, making public transport less attractive to customers, decreased ridership, and an adverse impact on the economics of operations. The need is to integrate the operations of the public transport systems, thereby making public transport more attractive to the customers and sustainable socially, economically, and environmentally.
The output of the studio would be a feasibility study on integrated public transport system for the case city of Rajkot. The students will analyse the existing growth, land use and transportation scenario including various transit modes in the city and also review future rapid transit corridors identified in previous studies/plans. The students will also understand the types of public transport systems and their characteristics, operational economics etc. An assessment of existing levels of public transport integration and the challenges would be carried out. They would then identify and details elements of multimodal integration to provide a seamless public transport system. An evaluation framework including physical
