A transition from mills to mixed use development

Saraspur, located in Ahmedabad's eastern suburbs near Kalupur Railway Station, reflects the city’s rich textile mill legacy. Over time, it has transitioned into a predominantly residential precinct with bustling trade and commerce along its streets. Known for its vibrant religious traditions, Saraspur balances cultural heritage with evolving urban dynamics. However, large industrial plots, some repurposed, coexist with a notable lack of green spaces. Streets often double as spaces for activities, from religious events to recreational cricket games, underscoring the need for accessible public spaces. This study explores a 1 sq. km area to understand Saraspur’s transformation and urban character.
