Odhav, one of Ahmedabad’s three oldest industrial estates established by GIDC in 1968, spans itself on the eastern AMC periphery. Initially zoned away from the city to decongest the core and modernize the economy, it transitioned from a simple village (gamtal) area to an engine of progress. With 51.4% of its built-use dedicated to industrial activities, Odhav has undergone significant transformation, blending industrial and residential uses (35.7%) to offer amenities such as schools, hospitals, gardens, and a lake walkway. However, growth in the precinct has stagnated in recent years. As existing infrastructure deteriorates and becomes overburdened, the lack of new planned development poses a threat to the quality of life for its residents.
