Hansol: A Transition towards the River

Hansol, in Ahmedabad's North Zone near the airport and Cantonment area, lies by the unconstructed stretch of the Sabarmati Riverfront. Divided by Airport Road, it features two distinct zones: Zone 1 with isolated high-rises, and Zone 2 with semi-detached homes and mixed-use spaces fostering community interaction. Since 2005, the Sabarmati Riverfront Project has transformed the river from a livelihood source to a recreational hub. However, Hansol’s slow development and privatization have created barriers limiting public access and connectivity. Despite its gradual spatial shift toward the river, Hansol lacks the physical links for cohesive growth. The project's third phase aims to bridge these gaps, enhancing vibrancy and fostering stronger ties with the river.
