This studio project will focus on a greenfield site in the rapidly growing Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar metropolitan region. It will be a developer-driven project on land under single ownership, aiming to create an Urban Innovation Village that blends high-density development with green infrastructure. Over the past two decades, unplanned urbanization has significantly increased the vulnerability of cities to climate change, and the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar metropolitan region exemplifies this trend. The area is witnessing rapid infrastructure and real estate growth, driven by investments and innovation, but often at the expense of vital natural systems such as green reserves, water bodies, and riparian edges. This loss exacerbates the risks of extreme rainfall, urban flooding, heat islands, and environmental degradation. To address these challenges, this studio proposes a systems-based approach to urban design, integrating natural blue-green infrastructure (hydrology and ecology) with urban systems like mobility, stormwater management, waste management, renewable energy, housing, and open spaces. By doing so, we aim to create a development that is climate-resilient, sustainable, and livable.
