PANKHUDI - Lightweight Concrete

The studio provides a great opportunity to learn and study about concrete as a building material which is widely used in today’s construction. The studio offers a dialogue between the pre-existing usage of concrete and the various unexplored types of concrete. The course of the studio is divided into modules, each one providing a different set of learnings pertaining to the material. The raw materials used to make concrete define the nature of concrete. Hence, the first module comprised testing various raw materials used in conventional concrete. Next, I explored a variety of materials that are used to make concrete, in addition to the conventional materials, such as chemical admixtures, types of aggregates etc. In the next module, I learnt about volumetric and weight batching of concrete - the methodology and the application. I also learnt the process of concrete mix design as per the IS code. For the third module, I had the chance to design and execute a bench made of concrete for CEPT. In the final module, I developed Lightweight Concrete with my own research and experimental program.
