Structural Performance of Single-Layer / Double-Layer Steel Roofs: A Parametric Grid Pattern Analysis – Part 1

The structural performance of steel roof systems is a critical consideration in the design and construction of modern buildings. Single-layer and double-layer steel roofs offer notable advantages in terms of weight, cost, and structural efficiency. However, the effectiveness of these systems is heavily influenced by the grid pattern employed. This directed research project aims to create a comprehensive comparative database on the structural performance of flat steel roofs through the analysis and optimization of grid patterns. By employing a parametric analysis approach, this study will systematically evaluate various grid configurations to identify the most effective patterns in terms of span, load distribution, structural stability, and material efficiency. The findings of this research will provide valuable insights for engineers and architects, enabling them to make informed decisions when designing steel roof structures, ultimately contributing to safer, more cost-effective, and sustainable building practices.
