Surface Temperature and Thermal Lag: a comparative study on thermal performance of walls with different strategies to reduce heat gains.

The idea here is to plot and analyze the impact of orientation and other strategies, to reduce the heat gains on the masonry walls in terms of its surface temperatures (inside and outside) and the thermal lag. The energy consumption of the building sector has increased drastically and world wide efforts are being made to reduce the demand itself. On the same lines, we being in a Hot and Dry climate it becomes extremely crucial for the engineers to understand the behavior and impact of various walling systems and strategies on the heat transfer to the indoors. Hence an experimental study needs to be carried out to measure and plot the thermal performance of the building envelope. Though it is planned to be done on a small cube of 1cum inside volume with a well-insulated roof, the readings will definitely not depict the actual envelope but the behavior of the walling systems can be gauged.
