Lighting & Integrated Design Lab (IDL) & Whole Building

The project aimed to create an ECBC-compliant healthcare building in Chennai's warm, humid climate and further improve its energy efficiency. Optimization focused on enhancing the building envelope, implementing an alternative HVAC system, and optimizing its performance to suit the city's adaptive thermal comfort needs. Solar PV panels were added to generate renewable energy on-site. At each stage, a cost-benefit analysis was conducted to evaluate energy savings and return on investment. The long-term financial impact was assessed using a 50-year Net Present Value (NPV), ensuring the design balanced energy efficiency, comfort, and cost-effectiveness.
