MONSOON SEMESTER 2024 | PASSIVE COMFORT LAB

The monsoon semester focused on thermal comfort and energy-efficient building design. Key topics included heat transfer mechanisms, ventilation strategies, and psychrometric processes for cooling and humidification. Passive cooling techniques like radiant and ventilative cooling and heating and cooling load calculations were explored. We analyzed climate using tools like Climate Consultant, D-view & MS Excel. We studied solar geometry to optimize shading. We also addressed moisture management, emphasizing humidity and vapor pressure control, to design sustainable, low-energy buildings for improved comfort and performance. We used Design Builder to analyse the impact of the building envelope on cooling loads and energy efficiency.
