Ahmedabad city is a blend of cultures, traditions, monuments, arts, and festivals. It has remarkable culture, arts and crafts..The growth of these started from the eastern part of the city. As the city developed, arts and culture shifted to the western side of the city. At present, events and initiative’s of Art and Culture are scattered. The origin of culture is forgotten and these places have become mere traffic junctions. The design intent is to introduce people to the Walled City as a start to the journey of Arts and Culture. An interactive program is laid where people gather and share their cultural interests, talk and enjoy. A platform where people can express themselves. Ahmedabad has been declared as a World Heritage City so the heart of the city should depict the life and culture of Ahmedabad. The intervention would connect people from both sides of the city and recollect the memories of past. Hence, the idea is to design a Town Hall that combines the activities together. It sits near the entrance to the walled city (through Nehru bridge) and it connects people directly to the Riverfront. The design acts as a spine which becomes public space attracting people to Riverfront. It would activate the area and connect the space with the river, hence making a better transition space. It would also become an anchor for activating residual spaces between Fort Wall and Riverfront in to better seating spaces, parks, a space for community gathering.
