The main aim was to approach the design of the school considering the extreme climatic conditions prevalent in Amritsar and at the same time breaking away from the conventional school typology. This was achieved by working in two different levels (i.e. below ground and above ground) and by creating green mounds that act as connectors between the levels. Apart from acting as connectors, these mounds were also instrumental in regulating the climatic conditions. Other aspects were the implementation of wind catchers and stack vents that use the technique of active evaporative cooling for ventilation; earth coupling and clusters forming courtyards.
