The site is located on the eastern edge of Sabarmati River front road. It has clear visual link with Sabarmati River but due to terrain it doesn’t have proper define access. It has two distinct community settlements of Hindu and Muslim communities on northern and southern side. Communities with various cultures and traditions coexist in the same region and use the same piece of land jointly for different purposes. It also has forgotten history as there is several ruins, old chimney, filtration pond and well of Calico Mills and several heritage temples on the site. These ruins and chimney losing importance due to lack of the awareness and engagement. Rituals and traditions are dying as cultural and historical connections are fading near old religious precincts. Open spaces are highly underutilized which are turning into dump yards. Communities don’t have enough space to run their small-scale businesses like kite making, agarbatti making, broom making etc. The site has great potential of reviving the forgotten roots which can act as a common resource in order to increase community involvement and help them generate income. The aim of the project is to design a space that reconnect the communities with forgotten historical and cultural roots in order to create more opportunities and sources of income that leads to upliftment and growth of the communities as well as foster social connection by offering areas to relax and recreation.
