Architecture in a Heating World: Strategies to Combat Extreme Heat in Indian Cities - A Case of Ahmedabad

The research will aim to identify and understand causes of heat island effect in Ahmedabad and investigate ways to mitigate/ adapt to the same through various design strategies at an individual building as well as city level. Principles of biomimicry - as not just embodiment of a physical form, but emulation of systems and processes in natural ecosystems - would be explored as possible solutions to combat this issue. The Heat Action Plan of Ahmedabad, as well as similar plans in other cities, would be analysed to understand the various policies and regulations adopted by the Government to combat extreme heat.
