Udaipur Art Gallery- World within Disguise

The relationship between the land and the building is one of the cardinal responses. In response, studying the immediate context in detail results majorly with the building being in contrast or merge with its surroundings. Seldom these characters appear in pure form but an amalgam of these characters, one being prominent over the combination of the others. The true response to this architectural aspect creates an enriched environment through the development of a uniform language and relationship with the built form. Standing strong against the bright sun of Udaipur the small hill facing the Fateh Sagar lake appears humongous in front of the peaceful delicately spread lake like it is ready to hit the ground like a strong wave. The overlap of the journey created through the everlasting loop of understandings between the artist and viewer and the physical journey towards uphill results in a built form twirling itself around the various features around the site. The built form attains its materialistic characters through choosing the two main activities to be the permanent and temporary galleries and metaphorically retaining the permanence to the substructure with solid rigid materials and the top structure to be light, reflecting its collapsable character.
