Henry David Thoreau rightly states, “A lake is the landscape’s most beautiful and expressive feature. It is the Earth’s eye looking into which the beholder measures the depth of his own nature.” However, in an area having rich biodiversity water has an ecological significance greater than its aesthetic appeal. The water body and the adjoining marshy area is the habitat for many resident and migrating aquatic birds. Water is the nucleus around which life revolves. The diversity of birds indicates the health of the water body. It is during the Pre-Monsoon months that the water requirement is maximum. The reduced water depth due to evaporation and lack of emergent vegetation around the water body causes the resident birds to search for more conducive habitats locally. Therefore, the bird diversity reduces during this period. The design intervention aims at creating a conducive habitat where the resident aquatic avifauna can reside year around.
