River dominated mangrove wetlands
Pichavaram Reserve Forest
The Pichavaram Mangrove Forest exists between the River and the Sea. In this forest, no line distinguishes the freshwater from seawater. The larger vision is to understand the zoning patterns of mangrove species and their occurrence in particular regions that inform the various conditions in which Mangroves survive. Rowing along the creeks bordered with repetitious Rhizophora species leads to an interrogation of what lies beyond them. The Physiognomy of this hidden landscape is different in the inland and towards the sea. The thresholds, informs one about the microtopography, the soil texture, tidal amplitude, and the hydrodynamics aspect of the forest.
