Can Slum Housing be a typology rather than an Encroachment?
Slums are typically informal settlements that arise spontaneously in urban areas, often on land that is not zoned for residential use. They are typically characterized by overcrowding, poor sanitation, and lack of access to basic services such as water, electricity, and healthcare. Slums are often occupied by low-income residents who cannot afford to live in formal housing.
Both slums and pol houses are typically found in densely populated urban areas where pol houses have humane qualities and don’t lack basic services while remaining unplanned but following a pattern. This project aims to create a typology that can bring those humane qualities of “pol” housing while meeting the density of slums.
