The breakdown of the project: First Stage: Introduction? Familiarization with site? Documentation Measured Drawings? Archival Research Second stage: Analysis, Understanding the place and its Cultural Significance,Condition Assessment, Structural & Material Conservation Approaches Third Stage: Properties of Materials, Condition Mapping & Non Destructive Testing,Identifying 5 major issues and Design for Repairs/intervention Fourth Stage: Design Development week : Identifying one area of interest , identifying issues and developing design strategies as per the conservation approaches in design for that particular one issue. Scope of project: Understand the building and identifying the issues and developing consolidation strategies . Limitation : The design proposal will concentrate on only one of the many aspects identified and thus limits the overall overview of the site. Even for the material consolidation only 5 issues selected will be dealt with in detail thus leaving consolidation open ended. Issues identified: Depend on the 1.Ageing of material 2. Overloading 3. Unsympathetic repair 4. Lack of maintenance 5. Improper maintenance methodology 6. Incompatible material (in case of cement) 7.Insensitive additions 8. Services 9.Awareness: User unaware 10. Surface repairs.
