This is an urban project that deals with the question of how the Sabarmati Ashram can be renewed and, in a sense, revived in a contemporary way. An ashram is a place where people "work with their hands" in word meaning. It is about self-sufficiency and frugality, about spirituality and community. In order to properly deal with the ashram and to continue to pursue the values that underlie it, all interventions should be carefully chosen and as restrained as possible. They are to be achieved primarily by three simple layers: flooring, vegetation and simple built interventions.
