This project is directed towards understanding how structure plays a role in the horizontal as well as the vertical. To develop a roof for the pavilion was the aim of the studio and to also develop its system from the ground up using a similar language and concept, hence focuses on the integration of a structural system in relation to space. The system for this design is a hybrid of tensegrity and reciprocal surface structure which has evolved and developed throughout the semester with a series of working models. With a heavy base at the bottom and light hovering roof above, this pavilion houses a sports gallery at the ground level and a cafe on top, overlooking the sports arena.
