Aimed at the revival of the Vastrapur lake, the intervention employs curation of movement across levels through introduction of galleries, cafes, shops to engage the public within it. Along with providing for the lakeside activities, the formation of alcoves in the reconfigured mounds and levels retain them with step-well like formation resonating with traditional water feature. The performance space anchors the public space on the site. It takes after the alcove-like formations on the promenade, intensifying and scaling up and eventually resulting into a mound – the inverted depression of the lake. The performance space recontextualises the under-utilised amphitheatre at Vastrapur Lake and proposes a flexible and divisble venue that can efficiently host a smaller as well as a bigger performance. Multiple configurations allow for multiple genres of performances at the same location. The performance space, along with the ancillary functions by the promenade encourages the nuances of performance along with establishing the urban landscape at Vastrapur as a cultural complex in Ahmedabad.
