House for a Musician, Fatehpur Sikri

A space formed with the relationship of the existing ruined pavilion, and the humongous Neem, is the seed of the design of the house for the flutist and his family. The main indulgence is in the idea to create an owned ‘outside’ inside the dwelling. In the vast island-like site, this heavy, walled house not only wishes to become the medium to experience the vastness, it also tries to put the landscape at the back of the mind and create its own world. The later addition of the institution becomes lighter and open, and is a gesture of welcoming more people. The small house grows into an institution, a medicinal garden, a mango tree forest, and something more. The idea of growth governing the design moves becomes important to understand the idea of associations and acceptance of the newness.
