Towards a full bloom

At Jamalpur flower market, there is a constant struggle or contest for space by different groups and activities that take place. Due to the emergence of this ‘spill-over market’ there is a disparity between the space allocated and the actual space occupied for activities such as vending, parking, vehicular traffic, and pedestrian movement. The market is unable to cater to these spill-over businesses. It needs newer amenities and infrastructure to support these activities. The flower market yearns to break free from its mundane role of being merely a supplier and harness its full potential to blossom into a powerful force of art and creativity. This new place will cater to everything flower-related: a market, florist studios, gift shops and floristry workshops for skill exchange. The architecture breaks away from the past while being autonomous, contemporary, expressive, and reflective of the present. It will serve as public space in the evening allowing people to congregate when the market slows down. This transforms the space into an urban plaza.
