Contextualizing A Prototype: Unite d'Habitation

As a manifestation of Corbusian principles, Unite d’habitation failed to contextualize the ideals. The modernist fervour of consolidating a city into one single building worked against Corbusier, leading to defunct public spaces. Obsessing over the high rise, it failed in recognizing the ground level as the most important part of the city. To bring new life to the Unite it is essential to disunite it and give meaning to the common spaces. Reintroducing amenities and functions relevant to the edge conditions, the aim is to enclose the park in an attempt to give it a sense of place.
