Shared Fields - weaving the threshold

Dahanu has one of the narrowest transects between the Northern western ghats and the Arabian sea. The Vahindra river passes through the transect catering to the diverse landscape & supporting the Warli and fishermen community. Frequently shift in occupation due to demanding needs is an alarming issue in the communities.   The project aims at interlinking skills and knowledge of the landscape systems of the fisherman and the warli communities to come up with a productive landscape and in process conserve and rejuvenate degraded parcels of intermediate wetlands which are a point of intertidal thresholds. The project intent is to bring fishermen and warli community together by providing a shared ground to sustain change and the distress cycles of life .The project takes place on the floodplains of the creek’s inland area, where fresh and brackish water mix and the river meanders. It provides rich ground for the growth of crops, vegetables, and fruits, as well as the breeding of fish. The project acts as a weave and a threshold that brings together farming and fishing and the traditional knowledge associated to this two cultural groups. In this process it also helps rejuvenate the native landscape exploring its productive potential.
