NEIGHBORHOOD DESIGN

Indian cities are growing at a substantial rate since the last two decades. The increasing population, which the city has to accommodate, has lead to more pressure on already built areas and the extension of development on its periphery. There is a need to understand and focus on the effects of this phenomenon on our cities keeping in view the livability and vitality of the city. It is now a well acknowledged fact that cities cannot and should not extend their limits endlessly. The focus of this studio is to look at the renewal projects within the functioning city. Such opportunities arise when certain pockets of land are available for redevelopment.Increasingly our cities will witness such internal changes which provide opportunities for re-imagining the city. For this purpose private land in the green belt of Ahmedabad near Rajiv nagar is chosen as the area of intervention.Today some part of this land are occupied by squatter settlements. The projects aims at creating an inclusive neighborhood considering the need of the neighborhoods around as well as the city.
