A transect is a method of underlying a horizontal strip along the city and breaking it up into zones based on the intensity of the built environment, physical character and social character. The idea is to reorganised or in most case, further control future development within a transect to avoid ‘sprawl’. The site chosen is from 'Indulal Yagnik Park' till 'Raikhad Darwaja' with 'Manek Burj' being the anchoring center. When the approach of transect based design was adopted, this vertical stretch started extending into the city and became multiple horizontal strips. Six zones were identified for transects being T0(Sabarmati River), T1(Mobility Patch along river), T2(Sub-Historic Zone), T3(Historic Core), T4(General Urban) and T5 (Urban Core). Some transects extend longer than others, and this decision is based on when T5 shows up within the horizontal strip. Transect based codes are designed with parameters inspired from HRIDAY. The transect codes become context sensitive when applied to a particular strip due to its inherent ‘sense of place’ embodied within. The strip of AMTS Bus Stand to Bhadra citadel to Queen’s Tomb is selected with a zoomed in example at 'Vasant Vyayam Shala'.
